About Me

Hi, I’m Michiel.

I’m a Data Scientist at Sentigrate, trained as a Bioscience Engineer in Human Health Engineering, with an additional Master’s in Artificial Intelligence, both at KU Leuven.

My work sits where AI meets healthcare. I work mostly in:

  • Signal processing and time series: biosignals and wearable sensors such as EEG, IMU and radar
  • Computer vision: from medical imaging to real-world camera data
  • Multimodal learning: combining several sensors or imaging techniques so that each covers what the others miss

Healthcare is where I most want these methods to make a difference: detecting disease earlier, monitoring people outside the hospital, and giving clinicians tools they can trust.

Before Sentigrate, I did interdisciplinary research at KU Leuven, between the Research Group Ophthalmology and the STADIUS signal processing lab. My work there on retinal imaging for early Alzheimer’s detection was recently published in Bioengineering (read the story).

I care about models that work outside the lab: practical, efficient, and grounded in domain knowledge. Have a look at my projects or my CV.
